Abusive Relationships: Understanding + Overcoming Abuse with Emmy Marie

Episode Summary

INTERVIEW: Paige sits down with Emmy Marie to discuss her experience with an abusive relationship, trauma, healing, and how it’s impacted her life as a whole.

Episode Notes

Emmy Marie is a certified trauma-informed life coach who strives to create content that makes understanding trauma and healing more accessible and achievable. She hopes to help as many people as possible reject toxic shame, grow to love and accept themselves, and create joyful lives and relationships post trauma.

In this episode, Emmy dives into her experience with trauma and how it led her to where she is now. At age 15, she entered an abusive relationship. She had a skewed idea of “what love is” due to this, and it reduced her from being her happiest, healthiest self. After three years, she was finally able to get out. She began to experience PTSD and started going to therapy, which started her healing journey and journey towards learning and educating others about trauma.

Emmy defines trauma as, “something in the past that overwhelmed your nervous system to the point that you were not able to reconcile what happened and feel safe”. There are multiple types of trauma, and it depends on each person and their reaction to a situation. She also explains the healing process and how there is no linear process towards it, as well as how to move into a new relationship post-trauma and post-healing.
