Social Anxiety: From Socially Anxious to Socially Confident with Kyle Mitchell

Episode Summary

INTERVIEW: Paige sits down with Kyle Mitchell to talk about the struggles of social anxiety and how Kyle navigated this throughout his life.

Episode Notes

Kyle Mitchell, a public speaker, took control of his fears and struggles and turned it into something to help others around him. He realized he was not the only person who has or had social anxiety, which made him eager to help others. He began this by creating an Instagram page, and posted everyday, from tips of things he has learned to the things he has endured. This was one of the many baby steps Kyle has taken throughout his life to overcome this social anxiety.

Kyle begins this episode by talking about his mental health struggle through his social anxiety he faced. As a child he would have tough times trying to realize what was occurring, wondering what the problem was. Once he realized it was a real issue he was able to open up to adults in his life to navigate his way around his social anxiety and mental health. However, his metal health journey did not take a leap until college. In college, he knew it was time to take action for his mental health. He would slowly take baby steps in his journey, it started off as raising his hand once during class and the fear of doing that subsided overtime. He controlled his anxiety instead of allowing his anxiety to control him. All it takes is small steps to achieve the bigger picture.

Social anxiety is a mental health struggle many people struggle with, and many people do not realize others around them are struggling. Kyle continued hating parts of himself, such as being pale or the way he walks, these are things that are unchangeable and he realized that. He realized he had to stop hating his appearance and stop having self doubt in himself. He overcame social anxiety by realizing being himself is the best thing for his mental health. Now he travels to schools advocating to teens how to become socially confident in themselves and become their best selves. We must take care of ourselves in order to take care of those around us.
