Thriving vs Surviving: The Impact of Societal Pressures on our Mental Health with Chrissy Kyles

Episode Summary

INTERVIEW: Paige sits down with Chrissy Kyles, the host of the ‘Bliss with Chriss’ Podcast and a higher education professional, to discuss our mental health through the ever changing world. With an ongoing pandemic altering our realities and our normal day to day lives, Chrissy Kyles and Paige chat about these mental health struggles we are all dealing with.

Episode Notes

Chrissy Kyles knew she was overwhelmed and anxious; in a mindset of surviving life instead of thriving with life. Chrissy knew it was time for a change with trying to juggle a new normal. Therapy helped Chrissy juggling her life, navigating what emotions she is experiencing and understanding herself more deeply. Therapy is a very powerful source that showed Chrissy that what she was going through was normal, and it is okay to go through these things.

Chrissy found herself wanting to be a counselor because of those things she wasn’t getting as a child, to be able to give those mental health tips to kids. Being able to have deep conversations with the students is a way of coping with the things she didn't get as a child but also to show the students that they are not suffering alone. Everyone struggles with mental health in one form or another, giving access to children at a young age can give them more efficient help to navigate their mental health.

Another big topic talked about was checklists in life. We often find ourselves comparing ourselves to the people around us. Making deadlines of what we should be doing, such as having kids, getting married, going to college. Chrissy says that we feel an intense pressure to keep up with those around us, which shouldn’t be the case, we all have to work at our own pace and live life on our own time. Society pushes things when we all need time to grow, instead of being pressured.

Life throws so much at us. It is hard but we must realize it's hard to navigate our way through life and make our mental health a top priority. Within this episode Chrissy Kyles and Paige give a lot of advice on how we can be the best version of ourselves and how we can find our normal within an ever changing world.
